About This Project

Puerto Rico

As a part of pushing past the devastating impact of 2017’s hurricanes Irma and Maria, the Home Repair, Reconstruction or Relocation Program (R3 Program) was created by Puerto Rico’s Department of Housing and financed through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). All new homes in the R3 Program are required to be green certified. Rebuilders PR chose to use the ICC 700 National Green Building Standard (NGBS). Green features include highly reflective Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) roof membranes, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and ENERGY STAR appliances. All the new R3 Program homes are ADA compliant, and are also designed for “aging-in-place” with wider doorways, lower shelving and cabinets, and easily accessible bathrooms.

SK Collaborative worked with Rebuilders PR throughout the Covid-19 pandemic to virtually verify 55 NGBS Green Homes for Rebuilders PR on the eastern side of the island.
